Leadville is a great central location and we've loved having our vacation home there for the past few years.  The area has lots of friendly people.  We all enjoy the snow but it is so much nicer having 310 days of sun each year to go along with it!

Here's a list of links with fun family things to do in the area that we've enjoyed.  Of course there are so many other things to do as well!
http://www.mtmassivegolf.com/ about 2 miles down the road from the house...http://www.mineralbelttrail.com/ a great family three hour bike ride.  Good challenge for teenagers and adults alike.  Take a sunny 28 or 78 degree day and enjoy soaking in the river or the pools at:  http://www.mtprinceton.com
Make a day trip 2.75 hours south and hike at the Sand Dunes.  If it's 26 and Sunny in Leadville, the Dunes will be 50+ and sunny.  http://www.nps.gov/grsa/
Ride the Gondola for free in Vail, Thurs-Sat. 4-9 PM (call first to be sure):  http://vail.snow.com/summerhome.asp?c=adventureridge%26gondola|b=vailmountainactivities|a=ae
Lots of free weekend activities 23 minutes down the road http://www.coppercolorado.com/
Make a day trip to http://breckenridge.snow.com/  and get a half or full day pass at the Peak 8 super slide area.
Spend a day or three just around Leadville, ride the train or visit the Mining Museum:  http://www.leadville.com/history/
Oh...don't forget driving an hour over Independence Pass (open Memorial Day to mid Fall) to Aspen for lunch.  The Cooper Street pub is a Green Bay Packer/sports bar that serves a burger, fries, and beer/soda for $7.95 (maybe it's $8.95 this year...)  Of course they have many other fine restaurants and shops as well!
Horseback riding and rafting are everywhere around Leadville.
